Our business
How our business works
Customers buy gold from SMG, either as coins delivered to them or as digital gold held in custody. We source the physical gold, keep the records, and buy digital gold back at a disclosed rate.
The flow of money and gold
Gold coins
- 1
Customer pays SMG for a coin at the quoted price.
- 2
SMG sources the coin from inventory or its supplier.
- 3
SMG invoices and ships the coin to the customer's address.
- 4
Customer receives the coin after an identity check, and owns it outright.
Digital gold
- 1
Customer pays SMG for an amount of gold at the quoted price.
- 2
SMG confirms physical gold from inventory or its supplier.
- 3
SMG invoices and allocates the gold to the customer, held in custody.
- 4
Customer may sell back to SMG at the buyback rate, paid to their bank.
Who does what
- SMG is the seller
- When you buy through Save My Gold, you're buying from SMG Horizon Services Private Limited. We quote the price, receive your payment, issue the tax invoice and are responsible to you for the order. Payment partners process payments for us; they aren't the seller.
- Gold comes from inventory or our supplier
- We buy physical gold under a written supply agreement with Malabar Gold & Diamonds.
- You own what you buy
- A coin is yours once delivered. Digital gold is recorded as yours once it's allocated to your paid order, backed by your invoice and an allocation reference. The legal terms of title for pooled holdings are set out in our terms.
- Digital gold is held in custody
- Allocated gold is held for customers by a custodian, separately from SMG's own assets, and reconciled regularly. These arrangements are being finalised, and digital gold sales won't begin until they're in place. Gold custody
- Sell-back is a new sale
- When you sell digital gold back, SMG buys it from you at the buyback rate on the day and pays your verified bank account. It isn't a refund of your original purchase. Selling gold back
